It is not enough for teeth just to look good. For comfort and longevity, they must be built into a stable bite that has even and protective contacts between teeth in the full range of chewing movements and they must allow the jaw joints and muscles to settle into a relaxed position at rest. Past dentistry such as incomplete orthodontics or a crown or filling on a back tooth that was left slightly high will often cause a problem if left unresolved. Sometimes people will grind their teeth and end up breaking an offending crown, but more often they will learn to rock their jaw forwards or to the side slightly to find a more comfortable bite position that avoids such 'high spots'.
