Tobacco related health risks have been well documented and publicised. You can hardly miss the cigarette box warnings about heart disease and cancer. But did you know the oral health risks?

Smoking and chewing tobacco cause bad breath and tooth staining but they can also cause gum disease, tooth loss and mouth cancer. Over 2000 new cases of mouth cancer are reported annually in the UK and 5 year survival rates are only 50%. Mouth cancer surgeries can be disfiguring and have long-term side effects. Tobacco also prevents healing of dental implants so they are not offered to smokers.
