"Cosmetic dentistry is not officially recognised as a specialism in the UK and any dentist can claim to provide it. Despite the knowledge, experience and skill required, dedicated cosmetic dentists cannot claim to be specialist, only that they concentrate on or have an interest in cosmetic dentistry"

"All general dentists do provide cosmetic dentistry in some form or other, even routine treatments such as white fillings. But a specialist cosmetic dentist will have more experience and the tools to treat the whole smile rather than just individual teeth. The main tools of the cosmetic dentist are smile design using computer imaging (and diagnostic wax-ups), whitening, porcelain veneers, composite bonding, crowns and bridgework. If the general dentist is fully conversant in these techniques then he should be able to say he provides cosmetic dentistry too"
